Abbreviations used in this pattern

  • Ch = chain
  • Dc = double crochet
  • Sl st = slip stitch
  • St(s) = stitch (es)
  • Inc C = increase corner (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc)

The foundation chain

  • 2Y = 72 sts
  • 4Y = 80 sts
  • 6Y = 88 sts
  • 8Y = 96 sts
  • 10Y = 104 sts

we won’t join the ends of the chain because we will work 5 rows, keeping the dress open, so we can add 2 buttons at the end.

The yoke ,for the yoke the number of sts for sizes 4Y, 6Y, 8Y, 10Y are written between brackets

Row 1 Ch 3, 1 dc in first 11 (12, 13, 14, 15) sts, 1 inc C, (1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next st, 1 dc in next 10 (12, 14, 16, 18) sts, 1 inc C in next, 1 dc in next 24 (26, 28, 30, 32) sts, 1 inc C in next, 1 dc in next 10 (12, 14, 16, 18) sts, 1 inc C in next, 1 dc in last 12 (13, 14, 15, 16) sts. Ch 3 and turn

Row 2 [1 dc in each st until you get to the next corner (ch 2 space from the previous round), 1 inc in the ch 2 space]. Repeat to the end of the round. Ch 3 and turn

Repeat round 2 until you have in total 5 rows. At the end of row 5, join with a sl st and we will start working circular.

Now continue working circular until you have in total:

  • 2Y = 9 rounds
  • 4Y = 10 rounds
  • 6Y = 11 rounds
  • 8Y = 12 rounds
  • 10Y = 13 rounds

After finishing the yoke, we will separate the body and sleeves and start working the 3 parts individually.

The Body

Round 1

Start the round as usual. 1 dc in each st until you reach the first corner. In the first corner make 1 dc, ch 8, skip the sts for the sleeve and move to the next corner. In the next corner make 1 dc. Continue with 1 dc in each st until you get to the 3 rd corner, 1 dc in corner, ch 8, skip the sts for the sleeve, 1 dc in the 4 th corner. Continue with 1 dc in each st to the end of the round.

Round 2

1 dc in each st around, including the chain sts at the armpit. Repeat round 2 until you have in total for the body:

  • 2Y = 12 rounds
  • 4Y = 13 rounds
  • 6Y = 15 rounds
  • 8Y = 19 rounds
  • 10Y = 22 rounds

The Skirt

Now we will continue with the skirt. To make it wider than the body we will increase in each st with 1 dc.

Round 1

2 dc’s in each stitch around. Join with sl st.

Round 2

1 dc in each stitch around Next, repeat round 2 until you get to the desired length of the dress. For size 4Y I made 21 rows for the skirt.

And done! A beautiful and cute Play Time Dress 🙂
